Banchory Bowling Club and Recreation Grounds

Banchory Bowling Club and Recreation Grounds

Dee Street, Banchory ,
Founded in 1903, on land donated to the people of Banchory by Burnett of Leys, the bowling club has been at the centre of Banchory life for many years. Over the years it has been run/owned by the British Legion, Banchory District Council, Kincardine and Deeside District Council, then Aberdeenshire Council. Around 2000, it was handed over to the members of the bowling club to run and maintain, but still owned by the council. We also have an 18 hole putting green, and three tennis courts as well as the bowling green.

Banchory Pennant Team

Banchory Golf Club, Kinneskie Road, Banchory ,
For years, Banchory golf club has provided the world golf with some outstanding players. Names such as Lawrie, Bannerman and Hutcheon have helped Banchory Golf Club to establish it's name on the map, however much of the success of club is derived from Banchory's junior section. Over the years, the junior section at Banchory Golf Club has produced multiple budding young talents as well as winning it's fair share of team success. In the last decade, the team was most promenantly managed by the great Steve Robertson. Steve saw a degree of sucess throughout his long rain but will - i'm sure - be remembered for his cool head and ability to console a defeated and sadened junior member. The time and effort that Steve put into the junior section as a whole was fantastic and Steve will long be remembered for making huge leaps in success at Banchory Golf Club. In recent years, the club struggled to find a perfect replacement for Steve but over the last two seasons, the club introduced Dereck Birss. Derecks motivational style is unorthadox in the golf world, however since Dereck stepped up to the plate, the team has become arguably the strongest outfit in the North-East of Scotland. In the 2010 season, the team were easily champions of the league - winning every game. The team failed to get into the final after a dissapointing semi at Newmacher Golf Club saw the team defeated 4-2. The high handicaped players in the last three groups of the opposing team were too much for Banchorys strong outfit and the team were, in effect, defeated by the new ruling. In the 2011 season the team is fairing well so far, with a current record of 4 wins and 0 losses, with 1 game remaining, the results are as follows: Peterculter 1.5 - 4.5 Banchory Banchory 5 - 1 Kemnay Royal Aberdeen 1 - 5 Banchory Oldmelrum 2 - 4 Banchory Banchory 6-0 Kemnay
