Vehicle manufacturers restrict the performance of vehicles to account for sub-standard fuels and the possibility that vehicles are not serviced regularly; these restrictions are put in place in the ECU (engine control unit). Remapping removes that restriction to allow the engine to reach its full potential - resulting in more power, greater response and lower fuel consumption. It has no negative effect on exhaust emissions or the life of the engine.
You can remap your ecu for economy or performance. We connect our computer to the diagnostics port of the vehicle and essentially re-program the engines computer. No mechanical components are touched.
