Community of the Resurrection

Community of the Resurrection

Stocksbank Road, Mirfield ,
In the Community of the Resurrection worship follows a typical monastic round: each day begins with Mattins: the singing of several psalms to the traditional plainchant, followed by a reading, a canticle and prayers. After the short Midday Office we gather round the altar for the Eucharist. Our daily Evensong consists almost entirely of singing, mainly of psalms, and the day ends with the quieter service of Compline after which we keep complete silence until 9 o’clock the following morning (see the daily timetable). We also aim to pray privately for at least half an hour every day. Worship is like music - you cannot describe it. So if you want to know more about our worship, come and join with us. All our services are open to the public

Community of the Resurrection - Centenary Church Appeal

Stocksbank Road, Mirfield ,
Many people from near and far come in a constant stream to Mirfield for spiritual refreshment, experience of monastic life and worship and for Christian education and formation. Sometimes we can hardly cope with the numbers. We find ourselves offering space and resources for women and men who seek encouragement, stillness and space to pray in the midst of stressful lives. At the heart of it all, our church is our place of worship and home for many other events. It is now in need of major refurbishment: structural repairs, a new heating system, rewiring, new lighting and sound systems, a new floor, redecoration and much-needed disabled access. If all our activities here are to flourish, we need a church able to meet the needs of today. We need your help to safeguard what makes this place special and to create a church that can serve and sustain its many users for another century. This is just one element of the wider development of our site at Mirfield. We will also be building a new monastery to be situated next to the church, which will be separately funded. The appeal is now reaching an important moment - a major tranche of the applications to trusts, and to individuals for major donations, held up by the legal and other delays, are now being put into effect, while we are very happy to report that the response from our supporters has been magnificent: we will shortly have raised £500,000, nearly all from ordinary donations from our friends. The funding for phase one will be temporarily supported from money set aside towards the building or our new monastery, in order to enable us to get started with the work. We are lucky to have received a pledged legacy of £1m for the Community's work - that will come a long way in the future but it helps give us confidence in proceeding with our projects.
