Driffield WI

Driffield WI

The Masonic Hall, 25 Lockwood street, Driffield ,
Driffield Womens' Institute has been active for 70 years and currently has 30 plus members and welcomes any woman, young or old who wishes to learn more about a craft or a vast choice of other topics from photography to Illustrated Family History. WI life is not all about Jam and Jerusalem although we do tend to enjoy our crafting and baking rather a lot! The WI is proud of the diversity of it's members who could right now be knitting a shawl or putting a hand made card together or getting ready to go out to rifle shooting, archery, gliding or to a fundraising fashion show. The WI always has plenty to offer for fun, education or a challenging experience, something for everyone and something one may not have considered trying before? Becoming a Member Driffield WI was established in 1942 and has had periods of growth and declined over those years. However, at 70 years of age Driffield WI is yet again growing and maturing into a vibrant and diverse group of ladies which is partly due to the fact that it has always been there, part of the community through all the ups and downs, reaching out to women who are looking to be part of something meaningful, offering a full and supportive understanding of their need for companionship, values and desire for personal growth. Imagine being in a team of 207,000 women working together to inspire, educate and support one another and the community. Well becoming a member of the Driffield WI can mean exactly that for you! Making friends, working as a team and having fun is what attracts so many women to join the organisation but the WI is so much more than that. With the WI each woman is important, their opinion matters and their vote counts for something. The WI has the opportunity to debate and vote on local, national and international issues, it is a highly respected and influential organisation. We ladies of the WI accept that we are more commonly recognised for our skills in craft and cookery but we can and do set aside our knitting and lay down our oven gloves to vote on and support important campaigns which range from climate change and ending violence against women to the plight of the honey bee! To learn more fully what the WI stands for in the 21st century and find out more about our campaigns for a brighter future please visit www.thewi.org.uk. Membership offers a whole range of opportunities including monthly meetings, the membership magazine WI Life, and the chance to take part in wide-ranging activities with the opportunity to learn, develop and pass on new skills. We even have our own college! To enquire about joining us at the Driffield WI, please contact us here for more information. We really look forward to hearing from you.
