The London Song Festival was founded in 2007 by pianist Nigel Foster to fly the flag for the Song repertoire. The 2013 Festival is in two parts with four events taking place in May and June and five in October and November. Concert 1 - Thursday May 23rd, 7.30pm. The complete songs of Richard Wagner in celebration of his bi-centenary. A unique opportunity to hear all of Wagner's surviving songs under the umbrella of the Wagner200 Festival. The concert is centred around his Wesendonck Lieder and includes all the completed French Songs, Sieben Kompositionen zu Goethes Faust with chorus and a number of curiosities. Elisabeth Meister - soprano Matthew Hargreaves - bass-baritone Nigel Foster - piano Concert 2 - Wednesday May 29th, 7.30pm Association of English Singers and Speakers Centenary Concert. This concert celebrates the publication of the final three volumes of 'A Century of English Song' by Thames Publishing. The programme includes selected songs from all ten volumes of this pioneering series. Sarah Leonard - soprano Stephen Varcoe - baritone Nigel Foster - piano Concert 3 - Wednesday June 5th, 7.30pm The complete songs of Giuseppe Verdi in celebration of his bi-centenary. The songs of Verdi are even less well known today than those of Wagner. Though described as 'Composizioni da Camera'' they still maintain something of the grand sweep and exuberance of his operatic writing. This concert includes rarities that have been published only in facsimile in various journals. Master Class with Sarah Walker CBE Tuesday June 11th, 2-5pm and 6-9pm. Sarah Walker is Prince Consort Professor of Singing at the Royal College of Music and is a leading advocate of lieder singing and the song repertoire. There are two classes, the senior class for singers aged 20-30 and the junior class for singers aged 16-19.
