Woodside Playgroup is run by parents and carers of the children. A committee is elected each year. They employ the playleaders and ensure the group’s finances are maintained. The organisation and direction of the sessions and the curriculum are carried out by the three playleaders. Up to 20 children can attend each session. Our priority is to promote their social and emotional development in a happy, secure and stimulating environment. Woodside Playgroup offers 5 sessions which are as follows: Mon, Wed and Fri - 9:30am - 12:00pm Tue and Thur - 12:30pm - 3:00pm Woodside Playgroup is affiliated to the Scottish Pre-School Play Association (SPPA) who gives advice and support. We are also in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council to offer ‘funded’ Pre and Ante Pre School places to children In the term after their third birthday but they are welcome to start their time with us at two years and ten months old on a non-funded capacity (fee incurred). The partnership with the Council is a formal contract and as such we are duty bound to: • Provide an Early Years curriculum in line with the Curriculum for Excellence. • Have qualified staff trained to SVQ Level 3 in Early Years Education or above and registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC). • Have a manager who is a qualified to degree level in a subject the meets the SSSC criteria. • Be open to be inspected by the HMIe (Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education) and by SCSWIS (Social Care & Social Work Improvement Scotland). • Compile profiles on each of the children to show their progress. • Have a comprehensive set of policies and procedures. • Have in place an Improvement Plan to show how the Group will improve the service offered. • Be supported by an Early Years Coordinating Teacher, who visits once a fortnight to help and advice on the delivery of the curriculum. • We also have support from a Council appointed Development Worker who advises on Quality Assurance. • Staff attends relevant training opportunities
