Led by the elected student president, the SA committee plan and organise events throughout the year and act as the official link between students and the college. As one of the country’s finest land-based colleges Bishop Burton has a national reputation for quality and is the only College in the UK to hold Centre of Vocational Excellence status in both Agriculture and Equine. What's on offer? The College offers a wide range of land-based and non land-based courses for those looking for Further or Higher Education and many courses offer clear progression routes from BTEC First Diplomas through to Honours Degrees and beyond. The College also offers a wide range of apprenticeships and work-based learning opportunities for those who would prefer to earn while they learn. Many of our apprentices attend college on a day or block-release basis. Bishop Burton College also has an effective support network for all learners including welfare officers, sports development, chaplaincy and a warden service. What else is available on campus? The main campus in Bishop Burton village is home to a 360 hectare mixed farm which includes a Freedom Food assured, high-welfare pig unit, and brand-new dairy parlour, beef unit and sheep facilities. The College also boasts a state-of-the-art equine unit and therapy centre, which incorporates the new Olympic-standard Bishop Burton Arena, and animal management facilities. Amenities include residential accommodation for more than 300 students including two brand-new hostels, numerous catering establishments, bar, varied social calendar, sports hall and gym. Sports teams include football, rugby, hockey, netball and clay pigeon shooting. Campus developments The College has recently invested £40million in an ambitious campus redevelopment scheme, which includes the College’s Centre for Sport & Fitness complex and Bishop Burton Arena. Every month we have a guest speaker who will talk, for 20 minutes, about their scientific work and surrounding issues. Then its up to the audience to grill the speaker with questions and issues that they thing are important. Meetings are very informal with an emphasis on discussion. The is no need to book a place and no entry fee. We just ask that you make a small donation to cover the guest speakers travel costs.
