BrightLights Theatre School

BrightLights Theatre School

Gorse Covert Community Centre, Maxwell Drive, Loughborough ,
BrightLights Theatre School is a new, exciting school for 4-18 year olds, which opened in September 2011 in Loughborough. It is run by Nick Sutcliffe, a professional actor with 16 years experience in the West End, major regional theatres, touring productions, TV and commercials. He has also worked as a director and choreographer, recently having directed four of Shakespeares plays at The Bristol Old Vic for the BBC One Night of Shakespeare. BrightLights is VERY much connected to the industry. Already we have two TV casting directors interested, several West End performers, TV actors, and choreographers are lined up to come and give Masterclasses in their field. In the first term we were lucky enough to have Nadine Cox (original West End cast of "Wicked", "Billy Elliot", "The Full Monty") and Carl Sanderson ("The Phantom of the Opera", "Cats", "Crazy For You", "Acorn Antiques the Musical", "Starlight Express", "The Mikado", "Hello Dolly" - all West End) as guest teachers. The school runs every Saturday morning during term time, classes are from 10am - 1pm or 1.30pm - 4.30pm. Bright Young Things, our new sessions for 4-6 year olds, is every Saturday during term time 10.15am - 11.45am. Students are grouped by age and have an hour each of drama, singing and dance tuition each week (half an hour of each for Bright Young Things).

The Department of Information Science employs 21 academic staff, five of whom are Professors and one of whom is a Reader. DIS is Home in 2011 to 330 undergraduate students, 84 postgraduate students and 40 research students. A School of Librarianship was established at Loughborough College in 1947 and there are details of it in the College Calendars from 1948 onwards. When Loughborough College was split up in 1952 the Library School became part of Loughborough College of Further Education (later renamed, Loughborough Technical College in 1966 and Loughborough College in 1988). From 1967 the Technical College and the University of Technology collaborated to establish a degree in Library Studies and it was proposed in 1970 to take the School of Librarianship into the University. However, the University set up its own Department of Library Studies and appointed a Head of Department in 1972. This Department was formally approved by Senate in 1973. The Technical College was to retain the two year course and the University was to teach the undergraduate and postgraduate courses and the two institutions were to work in collaboration. The Technical College’s School of Librarianship was eventually closed in 1988 and some of its courses and staff were taken on by the University’s Department of Library and Information Studies.

Loughborough Drum Tutor

Loughborough Drum Tutor

Aura Studios, Loughborough ,
Lessons are one-to-one and held in Aura Studios, a newly refurbished professional recording studio located in the student union at Loughborough University. After the initial session, lessons can be designed to accomplish the aims and goals of the individual. For beginners, there will be a well-rounded and varied learning program to cover all the basics and beyond. For those who are already drumming, you will receive accurate feedback on your technique, feel, and overall playing ability. During lessons there is the opportunity to play along to backing tracks, which makes learning more fun and engaging especially for younger pupils. This runs alongside the usual exercise-based learning. Owning a drum kit is not essential for lessons, however owning your own sticks and a practice pad is strongly recommended. Notes are emailed to pupils after lessons to help them with their practice.
