Squirrel - Oxford Brookes University Food Co-op
Oxford Brookes University, Headington Hill Campus, Gipsy Lane,
Oxford
,
‘Squirrel’ is a weekly pop-up shop on campus at Oxford Brookes every Friday 12-4 in the main foyer, providing ethically sourced, popular wholefoods to students and staff at affordable prices. The stall offers a more ethical and sustainable way to shop, with fair-trade and ethically sourced produce at prices competitive with mainstream supermarkets. Squirrel is run entirely by its members - to be involved just get in touch!
Our Vision
An ethical and sustainable way to shop for healthier wholefoods, which is accessible to all.
Our Mission
Squirrel enables all at Oxford Brookes to buy more affordable, ethical and healthy wholefoods through a regular pop-up shop. The ‘shop’ cuts down on unsustainable packaging, waste and cost by selling produce by weight from a wholesaler, and all foods are ethically sourced.
Aims and Objectives
• Provide the opportunity for buying food in a more ethical and sustainable way than mainstream supermarkets.
• Encourage healthier eating and a reconnection with food through an enthusiasm for cooking.
• Exist as a successful democratic social enterprise, where all members have the opportunity to participate in the running of the co-operative.
• Be open to all, and appeal to a wide demographic at Oxford Brookes through the pop-up shop and having a presence within the university.
• Promote awareness of issues surrounding the ethics and sustainability of food through collaboration with relevant groups, as well as independently published information and events.
