Tameside General Hospital is a National Health Service (NHS) hospital situated in Ashton-under-Lyne. Run by Tameside Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, it serves the surrounding area of Tameside in Greater Manchester, and the town of Glossop in Derbyshire. Employing just under 2,500 staff, the hospital provides a wide array of healthcare one would associate with general hospitals, including Accident and Emergency services, and full consultant-led obstetric and paediatric hospital services for women, children and babies. In 2005 the hospital received the maximum three star rating from the Healthcare Commission in recognition of the quality of its services, and was granted Foundation Trust status on 1 February 2008. However, in 2009 it was identified as having the third highest mortality rate in England.

Cheetham Hill is an inner city area of Manchester, England. As an electoral ward it is known as Cheetham and has a population of 12,846. It lies on the west bank of the River Irk, north-northeast of Manchester city centre and close to the boundary with the City of Salford. The Royal Manchester Children's Hospital is a children's hospital in Chorlton-on-Medlock, Manchester, England. It was opened on 11 June 2009, after the closure of the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital (founded 1829) in Pendlebury, near Manchester, and Booth Hall Children's Hospital in Blackley, North Manchester, as well as the existing St Mary's Hospital for neonatal services previously based nearby.

Agecroft Colliery was a coalmine on the Manchester Coalfield in the Agecroft district of Pendlebury that first opened in 1844 in the historic county of Lancashire, England. It exploited the coal seams of the Middle Coal Measures of the Lancashire Coalfield. The colliery had two spells of use; the first between 1844 and 1932 when the most accessible coal seams were exploited and a second lease of life after extensive development in the late 1950s to access the deepest seams..First colliery (1844–1932)The first pit was sunk by Andrew Knowles and Sons and worked an area to the south of the Pendleton Fault. The fault to the north, with a displacement of 695 metres to the northeast, formed a natural boundary to the colliery. The colliery was located close to Clifton Hall Colliery (Lumns Lane, Clifton), and had access to the Manchester and Bolton Railway line and the Manchester Bolton and Bury Canal. In 1896 Agecroft Nos 1 & 2 pits employed 371 underground and 111 surface workers while Agecroft Nos 3 & 4 employed 15 underground and 39 on the surface. In 1923 Nos 1 & 2 pits employed 272 workers and Nos 3 & 4 a total of 371. Floor upheaval on 4 November 1926 resulted in the deaths of six miners.

Salford City College is a further education college based in Salford, England. It opened on 1 January 2009, as the result of a merger between Salford College, Eccles College and Pendleton College to form a 'supercollege'. Salford City College continues to function in the same buildings that the previous colleges had.
