Grey Heron - Classic Carpentry & Furniture Making

Highbank Park, Highbank Collection building, Lochgilphead ,
"People relate to wood in ways that they don't to other materials. It feels real and natural, unlike plastic and steel. It feels like you really can make something out of it, rather than just put something together." Doug Hicks I started my adventure with wood quite a long time ago. When I was a few years old my uncle and his best friend had a furniture workshop. They showed me what wood is like and taught me the principal skills for working with wood. It was them who inspired me with a love and respect for this material. Later on I also fell in love with boats and wooden yachts so I trained in boat-building and yacht carpentry. I simply love working with wood and now I am running my own workshop. I mainly use locally sourced oak, sycamore, elm, ash, Douglas fir, larch or Scottish pine. Every piece of furniture is carefully designed and sometimes includes making three dimensional digital models.
