Maharishi School

Maharishi School

Cobbs Brow Lane, Skelmersdale ,
It's a great joy to announce that The Maharishi School, founded in the late 1980s - a school in which practice of Transcendental Meditation and Maharishi's knowledge of consciousness is part of the curriculum - has been granted 'Free School' status. 'Free Schools' are part of the British Government's new initiative - as of September 2011 - to improve the state of the nation's education by giving parents and educators the freedom to set up independent, state-funded school that are free of local government control. This means that schools are free to develop and impliment their own curricula. The government's application procedure is extremely rigorous and prospective free schools need to be able to satisfy a broad range of criteria before they can begin to operate. The most essential criteria from the school's standpoint however is that they can find suitable, functional premises and evidence of sufficient demand from parents. The Maharishi School, based in Skelmersdale in Lancashire, has been attracting considerable attention for many years through its outstanding CGSE results which have put it into the top 3% of schools nationally. Its students have also been the recipients of many regional and national awards. On the basis of The Maharishi School's wonderful academic success over 25 years, we now aiming to set up more Maharishi Schools in other parts of the UK to add to the 24 Free Schools that opened on September 4th. Our potential locations for new school are: Richmond, Surrey - http://www.maharishischool.com/Richmond.html Suffolk - http://www.maharishischool.com/Suffolk.html North London - http://www.maharishischool.com/LondonNorth.html
Delph Side Community Primary School

Delph Side Community Primary School

A lot of work has been done by staff and pupils to make the school and grounds attractive to instil pride in the community’s school. Significantly, there is hardly any vandalism to the school, reflecting the positive attitude of the community towards the school. There are computers and Interactive White Boards in all classrooms, and 15 computers in the new ICT suite, all of which are connected to the internet with a broadband connection. The school has achieved the ‘Investors in People’ Standard, which demonstrates the effectiveness of staff training and development within the school at all levels. The I.I.P. assessor especially commented on the way all staff work as a team. Delph Side is a ‘Primary Partner School’ with Edge Hill College in Initial Teacher Education, regularly offering students serial and block experiences. We have five trained ITT mentors in school. The school has a very supportive governing body who take a keen interest in what goes on in Delph Side. Many of them work in the school in various capacities and/or are parents of pupils in the school. Delph Side is part of the SHARES cluster of local primary schools. We were last inspected by OFSTED in May 2012. Our inspection report is available online at www.ofsted.gov.uk/inspection-reports/find-inspection-report search for Delph Side
