The fact that you are reading this page means that you already have an interest in Amateur Dramatics. Perhaps you my have 'dabbled' in amateur dramatics in the past, or perhaps you have little or no experience but are keen to find out more. In either case, this page should give you an insight into what we're all about. The Basildon Players was formed in 1963, although our roots go back to the late 1950's, and as such we are the longest established theatrical company in the district. . When and where do we meet? A. We rehearse twice weekly on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 8-10pm at: Woodlands School, East Hall, Basildon Q. Are there any restrictions? A. Just one - The minimum age is 16 - but there is no upper limit. Q. What type of shows do you do and how often? A. We aim to stage about three productions each year, and always try to provide a varied programme. This gives everyone the opportunity to experience different aspects of the theatre. You may have a desire to do a pantomime or more serious drama, or you might want to take part in a musical and sketches review. Whatever your preferences, there is always the chance to try something new. Q. What if I don't want to act? A. No problem. There are many areas of amateur dramatics besides being on stage, although people do not often see these! For instance there are backstage roles - tage management, props and lighting to name but a few. Then there's directing, producing, publicity events, front of house duties - the list is endless. We also construct and design our own scenery, which is an activity all players take part in. So as you can see - amateur dramatics has more to offer than you might realise. Q. What about the social life? A. We are a friendly group who have as many theatre trips, bowling evenings, quiz nights and other suggested get together's as possible! Q. How is the group organised? A. A committee is elected annually at a general meeting. This consists of a chairman, secetary, treasurer, membership secretary, publicity officer, social secretary and two committee members. The committee meets on a regular basis to deal with the groups general business, usually centered around the current production. Q. What does it cost? A. Very little! The subs paid cover the cost of hiring our rehearsal venue and are currently £3 per week.
