The Manor House Hotel is a unique family run 19th Century Georgian style Grade II listed building, packed with original features including, an elegant wood paneled staircase, beautiful high ceilinged rooms on the ground and first floors and wooden beamed rooms on the second floor. The hotel was originally built as a home in 1847 by hat manufacturer Thomas Wilson and was know as "The Grecian Villa". The building has been described as one of the two best houses in Cockermouth - the other being Wordsworth House, the childhood home of the poet William Wordsworth. Our restaurant is very popular locally, with food prepared by our Swiss trained Chef/Proprietor, Edward Bassam, who is well know for his homemade breads and the "Manor House Surprise Plate" dessert.
