Irish history starts at Coleraine Museum!! Although Coleraine Museum does not have a permanent venue, we hold temporary exhibitions, workshops and other activities in Coleraine Town Hall. The Hugh Thomson Study Room, in Coleraine Town Hall, is open by appointment. The Coleraine Collection stems from the town’s remarkable history. Coleraine is a town of several firsts – the first known settlement in Ireland at Mountsandel and the first ‘planted’ town in Ulster. The town produced ‘Colerains’ linen, the finest of Irish Linen and Coleraine whiskey – the brand of choice for the House of Commons. World famous illustrator, Hugh Thomson, artist A. D.
