Dumfries High School - Official
Dumfries High School is a 6 year comprehensive school with a school roll of around 1000 pupils. It is situated in a residential area of Dumfries, adjacent to the David Keswick Athletic Centre, which provides excellent facilities both for the school and the local community. Dumfries High School has been located on this site since 1961, and has been expanded and improved throughout the period since.
The School is well equipped and well staffed. Recent modernisation has provided excellent facilities, particularly in Music, Physical Education, Science, Computing and Technical Education. This year a number of classrooms across the school have been equipped with Smartboards.
As part of the continuing improvement of our facilities the school has been rewired and several new roofs have been erected. A number of areas of the school have been re-painted.
It is appreciated that the quality of education offered in any school, regardless of the facilities available, is heavily dependent on the quality of the teaching staff. The school enjoys a very dedicated, professional staff who have built up an excellent relationship with the pupils in their care and who consequently expect to achieve high standards, not only in academic achievement but in all areas such as respect for self and others and in social behaviour.
We expect our pupils to work hard and give of their best at all times. We therefore place great emphasis on the highest possible achievement in whatever they do.
We seek to encourage regard for moral values, to promote self-respect and to instil respect for others
We believe our school should be a place where the children enjoy their schooling; where they can work and develop in atmosphere of happiness, security and order; where they can be relaxed and confident in their relationships Finally we hope that when pupils leave Dumfries High School they will be well equipped with the skills and knowledge necessary for them to take their place in society.
