Originally it had a 900 m (2,953 ft) grass runway. The first scheduled air service began on 5 July 1966, with a service to Glasgow. A fortnight later a feeder service was added for Turnhouse and Prestwick. The service was stopped on 31 October 1967 after British Eagle reported substantial £10,000 losses. Around this time the control of Dundee City Council changed from Labour to Conservative and the airport was closed and land used by Dundee University as playing fields. When control of the Council changed back again to Labour the airport was reopened.The grass runway was replaced by a 1,100 m (3,609 ft) long tarmac runway in the 1970s and extended to the current length of 1,400 m (4,593 ft) in the 1990s. The airport was granted "customs airport" status on 16 April 1982 and runway edge lights were added in 1983. The current terminal was opened in 1997 by the then EU transport commissioner Neil Kinnock.

The Tay Road Bridge is a bridge across the Firth of Tay from Newport-on-Tay in Fife to Dundee in Scotland. At around 2,250 metres (1.4 mi), it is one of the longest road bridges in Europe, and slopes gradually downward towards Dundee. In 2002, a Tay FM competition to find a slogan for the bridge was abandoned after the slogan with the most votes - “It’s all downhill to Dundee” was deemed unsuitable. It carries the A92 road across the Firth and takes traffic directly into the centre of Dundee, just downstream of the Tay Rail Bridge.

Grove Academy is a secondary school in Broughty Ferry, Dundee. One of the most academically successful schools in Scotland, Grove Academy enrolls approximately 1200 pupils, the majority of which are from Forthill, Eastern, and Barnhill primary schools. The old Grove Academy Centenary Building is no longer used by the school, and together with old Main Building it is now Eastern Primary. The old Annexe is now Grove Healh Centre.

The 1999 Open Championship was the 128th Open Championship, held from 15–18 July at the Carnoustie Golf Links in Angus, Scotland. Paul Lawrie won his only major championship in a playoff over Jean van de Velde and Justin Leonard. Lawrie, down by 10 strokes at the start of the fourth round, completed the biggest comeback in Open Championship history. The event was headlined by van de Velde's triple-bogey at the last hole.The collapseVan de Velde, who was in control through the latter half of the championship, held a seemingly insurmountable three-stroke lead going into the 72nd hole. He teed off with a driver, which was heavily criticized by the ABC broadcast team, and pushed his shot into the right rough of the 17th hole. He later claimed that he thought the lead was only two strokes, which is why he chose not to go with a safe club, such as an iron. His second shot was hit into an area of knee deep rough after his ball bounced backward 50 yards off the grandstand then off of a rock in the Barry Burn. Had the ball stayed in the grandstand he would have been able to drop without penalty. Then the thick Carnoustie grass stifled him again, as his third shot went into the burn in front of the green. Van de Velde took his shoes and socks off, entered the burn in an attempt to play the ball from the water. Moments later he decided to take a drop, at which point he hit his ball into one of the deep greenside bunkers. He pitched out safely and buried an eight footer for a triple-bogey. This forced the three-man playoff, which he eventually lost.
