Lancaster is approaching its 50th anniversary with a world-class reputation as a centre for excellence in teaching, scholarship and research.

St Martin's College was a British Higher Education College with campuses in Lancaster, Ambleside and Carlisle, as well as sites in Whitehaven, Barrow and London. It provided undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the arts, humanities, business studies, teacher training, health and social care. In 2006 the College was granted the power to award its own degrees (prior to this they were accredited by Lancaster University). On 1 August 2007, the College merged with other institutions to form the University of Cumbria.HistorySt Martin's College opened in 1964, founded by the Church of England as a College of Education to train teachers, one of only two Church Colleges to be established in the 20th Century. Built on the Lancaster site of the (as of 01/07/2006) redundant King's Own Royal Border Regiment on Bowerham Road, the College opened with 89 students. The College was officially opened by the Queen Mother in 1967The College is named after St Martin of Tours, a Roman soldier who tore his cloak in two to clothe a naked beggar and later had a vision of Christ wearing the cloak. It is significant because just as St Martin renounced his life as a soldier after this to take on a life of caring and teaching, Bowerham Barracks left behind its military past to become a Church College.

This group is to allow everyone who is connected with the Islamic Society, be they students, teachers, alumni or affiliates, at Lancaster University, or residents nearby, to interact with one another and receive regular updates about the societies activities. Lancaster has welcomed study abroad students to its campus since 1968. In 1969 it embarked upon a regular Junior Year Abroad programme with the Universities of Colorado, Illinois and Massachusetts We now have 60 exchange partners in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Mexico and many study abroad partners in the US, Japan, China and other countries. Lancaster has participated in the European Union's Erasmus programme since its inception in the mid-1980s and now has over 80 agreements with universities and business schools across 20 countries in the EU.

At Lancaster we value the academic achievements of our students, but also recognise the importance of those activities you engage with outside of your programme of study. The student experience is enhanced by including extra-curricular activities and, with more graduates than ever before and increasing competition for jobs upon leaving University, these are vital to your future prospects. The Lancaster Award aims to encourage you to complete activities, help you to pull them together in one place and then be recognised for your accomplishments. The Counselling Service exists to promote the emotional and psychological wellbeing of all students and staff at Lancaster University. You may wish to receive counselling for a number of reasons.
