About us: Methodonsko is an International Folk Dance Group in Chandler's Ford, England. The club was created nearly 20 years ago with the goal of giving more people a chance to experience the magic of folk dances. Methodonsko is a place where you can unwind, make new friends and have fun with people of different ages and general passion for folk dancing. Our core repertoire is comprised of dances of the Balkan countries, including Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, Croatia, Romania, and Macedonia. We also enjoy dances from Israel, France, Russia and many other regions of the world. We do mostly line and circle dances that do not require a partner, but we also do some couple dances. Our Teacher: Founder of the club, our brilliant teacher Madeleine Chapman has the happy knack of making everyone feel very welcome and leads us through a range of dances suitable for all levels of ability. Her first taste of folk music was as part of the Greek Cypriot community in London just after the war. In the sixties she graduated from the “London College of Dance & Drama” where she later taught a variety of dances including jazz, tap, ballet and historical. Madeleine performed in many countries including USA where she joined a social club for Balkan Folk Dancing. On her return from the USA in 1972 Madeleine jointly created the “Hursley International Folk Dancers” club and in 1994 “Methodonsko” was formed. Schedule & Events: We meet every Wednesday except the first of each month between 7:30 pm and 9:30 pm. We organise special events every now and then such as “Bring & Share” evenings where everyone is welcome to bring and share their traditional dances; enjoy the home-made food and socialise with the other members of the club. Our Social Secretary kindly arranges various outings to concerts, theatres, etc. Prices: £4.00 for members £4.50 for non-members New members and guests are welcome any time. Most people don’t know that we haven’t had Arts Council funding since 2008 and to stay open we are independently run by a small team of four enthusiastic staff with help from volunteers! We do punch way above our weight though, with acts like Ross Noble, Reginald D Hunter & Eric Clapton often gracing the stage! We need all the support we can get so if you would like some work experience or have some spare time to volunteer get in touch: volunteer@cranleighartscentre.org
