Sussex Downs College (SDC) is a large further education (FE) college in the South East of England. It has campuses in Eastbourne, Lewes and Newhaven.

Founded in 1903, the school has continually adapted to meet the wide range of special needs presented by our young people. Today, the school’s multidisciplinary team offers education, therapy and specialist health services on a single site, sharing its location with Chailey Heritage Clinical Services, a specialist NHS clinical team. Our expert teachers work in partnership with paediatric medical consultants, speech & language therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, nurses and rehabilitation engineers. This holistic approach ensures that learning can be designed to suit each individual. Pioneering technology has enabled us to introduce a sophisticated track system which guides powered wheelchairs around the site, allowing pupils more independence. We have a special auditory ‘sign-posting’ system which assists pupils with visual impairments to recognise their exact location on site. Other facilities include a purpose-built hydrotherapy pool, a multi-sensory studio and dedicated horse riding facilities. Our spacious classrooms have the latest in ICT technology, specially adapted to allow our pupils access to the curriculum. Teaching groups are kept small with a high staff to pupil ratio. The College specialises in providing a wide range of land-based courses in partnership with schools, for those in further education and for those in higher education. The College degree courses are provided in association with the University of Brighton. The College’s main site is at Plumpton with out-centres at Netherfield (near Battle), Robertsbridge, Flimwell and Stanmer Park, Brighton. The range of courses cover all land-based provision including Agriculture, Horticulture, Floristry, Greenkeeping, Hard Landscaping, Equine, Agricultural and Horticultural Machinery, Metalsmithing, Animal Care and Veterinary Nursing, Countryside Management, Forestry and Arboriculture, Sports (Outdoor Education), Wine and Viticulture, and Rural Business Management.

The Dance Academy was started in 1998 in Lewes and now runs from a double studio in the heart of Lewes. Offering dance classes and training to children and adults of all abilities.

We offer A-Level in Music and/or Music Technology and BTEC Level 2/3 in Music as well as our elite Pre-Professional course and ensemble making, including choir and the chance for students to have their compositions performed. Music A-Level focuses on classical music through set works, composition and harmony work. BTEC focuses on popular music, the industry and song writing skills and technology focus on recording, mixing and sequencing using software Logic on MACs. We also offer instrumental lessons for students.
