Get Ready for Work A national training programme that helps young people to develop skills and work experience and help them towards finding a job, college place or further training To be eligible for this training programme you should: • be registered as unemployed with Careers Scotland • be between 15 – 19 years old Get in touch with your local Careers Scotland Centre. They will be able to tell you if you are eligible for the training programme. If you are, they will arrange an appointment for you to complete an Individual Learning Plan (ILP). Once you have completed your ILP with a Careers Adviser, this will be passed to Sabre Associates Ltd who will contact you within a few weeks to arrange an interview for the programme. Q. How much do I get paid? You will receive a training allowance of £55 per week, which will be paid in cash on Fridays. You will also be given a reimbursement of your travel costs to and from the centre. You, as a trainee, are eligible for the first £3.00 of travel costs, this payment will be made on a Friday upon receipt of a valid travel ticket. Q. Where do I go to start my training? Your training will take place at Sabre Associates Ltd, situated in Main Street, Lochgelly. If you are travelling by public transport use Bus No 19 from Dunfermline Bus Station, Bus No 33 or No 34 from Kirkcaldy and the No30 from Glenrothes. Please refer to the map overleaf for directions. Q. What happens once I start Get Ready for Work? You will go through an Induction Programme completing forms, learning about health and safety and being shown around the training centre. Q. What training will I do? Your training will be in the job area/s you have agreed with the Careers Adviser and is stated on the Individual Learning Plan. This will also include Core Skills support and the opportunity to undertake a core skills qualification if required. You will then progress to a work placement in your chosen field where you will continue to be supported by Sabre staff. Sabre will cover the cost of any Disclosure Scotland check, training and safety equipment required for you to progress. The training offered will depend on how well you are working and coping and may combine the training centre with a work placement. The training centre will help you to improve your job skills by using workshop based learning, using equipment used in the workplace for the type of job you are aiming for. We will also help you to focus on your employment skills by providing support with the following: • Writing a CV • Writing Letters to Employers • Completing Application Forms • Interview Techniques • Identifying Sources of Job Vacancies • Working in Teams • Confidence Building We can provide some extra help for trainees who need additional support for communication skills and numeracy. Q. How will I get a work placement with an employer? If you are working well and your timekeeping and attendance are good we aim to offer you a placement with an employer of your choice. Q. What types of placements are offered as part of my training? We will help you to improve your skills and knowledge by providing work experience placements. The following occupational sectors are examples of placements used. • Care Homes • Catering • Hairdressers • Office Administration • Warehouses • Retail Stores Q. Do I get the opportunity to gain any Certificates? If you complete a Core Skills qualification you will receive a certificate from Elmwood College, who you will be registered with. Any additional training you require to progress to a placement may also be certificated eg Food and Hygiene, Lifting and Handling etc.
