Hopi Ear Candling, also known as Thermo Auricular Therapy, is an ancient and safe form of therapy practiced by many people world wide. Its name is taken from the Hopi Indians of North Arizona, USA and means “Peaceful People”. The process involves a specially designed hollow candle being inserted just inside the ear canal. The candle is then lit and the suction that is formed draws the impurities from within the ear. This process is known as the chimney effect. The rising air gives the ear drum a gentle massage and also helps to regulate ear pressure. A small amount of wax is also removed during the treatment. Hopi Ear Candling has many positive benefits and can help with a variety of conditions of the ear: Tinnitus Sinusitis Glue Ear Hay fever and Rhinitis Excessive ear wax General hearing loss Colds Tension headaches You may undertake this treatment providing you DO NOT have the following existing conditions: Infection of the Ear Inflammation of the ear Surgery on the ear within the last four months Perforated ear drum - lack of ear drum Auricular cysts Grommets, drains or ventilation tubes fitted Known allergy to candle wax You will be placed in a comfortable position lying down on your side. The Hopi candle will be lit and gently placed just inside the ear canal. The candle will be held firmly in place to prevent and ash from falling. You will experience a crackling sound as the candle burns. You will also feel a massaging sensation to the ear drum and some heat as the candle burns lower. When the candle has burned it is gently removed. The process is repeated for the other ear. Once both ears have been treated you will receive a short soothing massage around the neck and ears.
