Why is it called King's Thursday Dinner?
The last King of Poland, King Stanislaus, reigned during the era of Enlightenment in Poland. In 1770 the King decided that Thursday Dinners were to be meetings of artists, intellectuals and statesmen, to discuss the finer aspects of art, literature and politics. Prominent Polish dignitaries were invited to dine with the King in the Royal Castle in Warsaw, and later in the Water Palace.
Thursday Dinners were eagerly adopted by all who enjoyed intelligent discussion. The custom continues to this day, providing food for the body and mind.
We welcome you to our King’s Thursday Dinner, and invite you to partake in “food for thoughtâ€.
