Rock and Road Alva Duathlon - Wednesday 22nd May

Ochil Leisure Centre, Queen Street, Alva ,
Scotland’s rugged terrain make it very well placed to deliver any fantastic off-road sports event and in Clackmannanshire we have the perfect location for a mid-week event. The race is designed so that first time off-road racers can get involved knowing they will complete a fun but tough course whilst still providing a good challenge for the more experienced racer. As well as this, it is mid-week (Wednesday evening) so you can go into work on Thursday with tales of the off-road fun you've had! Alva’s location makes it within easy reach of much of the Central Belt so no need to take the afternoon off. The first run will take you up to the foot of Silver Glen before dropping down again to Woodland Park and returning to transition. Once on the bike, you will head back up to Woodland Park and continue towards Tillicoultry. Once you reach Tillicoultry, you’ll wind your way round the back of village and then continue along the open hillside and across to some fun and more technical sections. A short (ish) sharp climb will take you back onto the open hillside as you make your way back to the Woodland Park via some fun swooping trails and a couple of steeper challenges. The last leg is the reverse of the first but takes the singletrack trail but the road up the Woodpark Park instead of the hill (phew!). It’s mountain bikes only for this race and in any case cross bikes wouldn’t really be suitable. We’ll leave tyre choice up to you. The course goes over a wide range of terrain which can vary depending on weather conditions. Although there will be marshalls on some sections of all the course, we strongly recommend a recce, especially the mountain bike section. Remember, it’s your responsibility to know the course!! We will have a Facebook page up soon with more details on the race and there will also be more info, including maps of the course, shortly on www.ochilleisureenterprises.org.uk All registrations, transitions, starts and finishes are located at the Ochils Leisure Centre. There is a goody bag for all entrants from the main event sponsor Rock and Road Cycles from Bridge of Allan, as well as prizes for 1st,2nd,3rd overall and 1st in each category (no competitor can win more than one prize). There is also a prize for first local (FK12 postcode). This is a pilot event with spaces limited to 60 so spaces are likely to go quickly.
