Venues and community groups from around Portsmouth, with support from Portsmouth City Council, are proud to announce the biggest family weekend of the summer.
On Saturday 3rd and Sunday 4th August 2013, Southsea Common will become a showground once more, hosting two full days of entertainment for the whole family.
A Big Top Tent will be filled with local and national talent, to thrill and entertain everyone, with the Tom Prince Cancer Trust Stage featuring the very best of local cover bands during both days.
There will be gardening demonstrations, competitions, community stalls, carousels, and bumper cars, as well as a petting zoo, sports activities, arts, crafts, and creative making workshops, a dog show, a cider bus, a milkshake wagon, and a whole host of food stalls. Visitors will have the opportunity to browse the wares of local traders whilst buskers provide entertainment in the Market Marquee.
After all the activities the two days will have to throw at you, you’ll want to relax in the Giant Tea Tent where baking demonstrations and workshops will be held, kids’ storytelling sessions will run, and traditional teas and cakes served up during performances from local signer-songwriters.
A Beer Tent and Real Ale Bar filled with folk, bluegrass, country, and roots music will be pitched up for the whole weekend, during which Carnival Costume workshops take place to prepare visitors for the participatory parade at 2:00pm on Sunday after noon.
But before that, on the Saturday, there’ll be a good old-fashion ‘End of the Pier Show’ to take visitors back to the best of the 1970s, offering up some classic family entertainment.
Throughout the Sunday, the fun continues, with a Grand Carnival Procession featuring the IoW New Carnival Company, who are known for their performance at the Paralympics. Also expect local carnival artists, bands, and participants in beautiful costumes created at the workshops, as well as a performance from the spectacular Cirque Bijou, who helped launch the 2012 Olympics and have toured with the likes of Take That.
The all-new Southsea Show will go ahead come rain or shine, as there’ll be plenty of entertainment under cover. And tickets are just £8 for adults with £6 concessions for under 16′s, over 65′s, and Portsmouth Leisure Card holders. A family of 4 can get in for only £24.
Tickets are available from Portsmouth Guildhall on 02392 824 355.
