Mayfield Promotions

Mayfield Promotions

What we set out to do here at Mayfield Towers is to redress the balance of promoter, performer relationships, how do we do this? Well we have been having a look at that. At present the way this works is essentially, the promoter organises an event, books the venue, books the bands, maybe sticks a page up on Facebook, and then asks the band to bring people with them to make it a ‘successful night’, successful for whom? The promoter? Are the people who came to see that band coming next week to see a different band? No, probably not! The band? Are they playing in front of new potential fans that will help build their following? Hmmm, Same answer! So who does benefit? Well the promoter goes home with a few quid in his pocket and the bands might get a couple of quid too, if they brought enough people. This patently doesn’t work for anyone. So, how about this? We (the promoter) do what our title suggests and promote our events, we establish a recognisable brand which people see as synonymous with good new music, the music fans come along because they know they will get to hear quality music, the bands want to play because there is a crowd already, (they didn’t need to cajole friends and family to come...again). And the local music scene builds up and becomes a recognisable entity. The current short term view of promoters doesn’t seem to take any of this into account; it just seems to be about how much we can make from the next event. We think with a little bit of hard work, some good relationships and a passion for what we do (we are all musicians too), we can make the whole system work better for everyone. Seem ambitious? Well we are an ambitious lot here at Mayfield, but actually, it makes a lot of sense, so maybe not that much of a stretch to put into action.
