Holy Family and St Michael's Catholic Primary School, Pontefract
Holy Family and St. Michael’s Catholic Primary School is one of two Voluntary Aided Mixed Primary Schools in Pontefract provided by the Diocese of Leeds for the education of Catholic children.
From September 2008 pupils from our school are resident in the parish of St Joseph’s, Pontefract as from August 2008 Holy Family Church Chequerfield, Pontefract was closed and St. Michael’s Church, Knottingley became a Mass Centre.
We draw from a wide catchment area and have a Metro Yellow Bus for pupils from Knottingley Parish at £1.20 per return journey. Those who travel from out-lying villages such as Brotherton, Beal, Kellington and Kellingley in North Yorkshire are granted a daily transport allowance.
The school is situated on the outskirts of Pontefract and is set in an attractive environment on the edge of a small estate of private houses. There is agricultural land to the side and rear. Holy Family & St. Michael’s opened on 17th April 1972. It is a flat-roofed building, housing six classrooms.
The Foundation Stage has an enclosed canopy to enhance provision for outdoor play. There is a computer suite, a Library, a Food Technology Room, Infant and Junior activity areas and a large hall which is also used as a dining hall. The school is set in pleasant grounds with large playground areas, playing field and a wildlife and pond area which is used as an environmental resource for all pupils.
