You may have seen us at several local events including as the Barber Surgeon at the Civil War Re-Enactment hosted by the Barnstaple Heritage Centre in April and at the North Devon Museum where we covered the Plague and Gun Powder Plot in November 2012. Living History – we cover a broad mixture of fashions, food and cooking, etiquette and historical expressions as well as exploring the life of a soldier during this period. Games – we explore games such as nine men morris or cup and ball and how and why these were popular in the seventeenth century. Crime and punishment - we can explore subjects such as witch craft, docks and pilaries, hanging, hung drawn and quartered and general crime and punishment. History of Medicine - we can explore surgery (tools, operations, tooth abstaction, treppaning, gall stone removing and amputations), apothecary (herbs and remedies, how to make pills, tincture and salves, distilling, sweat fever), physicians (diseases such as plague, syphillis, cholera, survey, leprosy and gangreen, blood poisoning). We even have leeches! We also cover and incorporate historical events such as the gun powder plot, great plague and the general history of the period.
