A Little about us:
We have a team of dedicated, qualified staff within our three rooms; all our staff undergo regular training ensuring that all qualifications are updated complying with all new legislations and regulations.
Throughout the nursery, we follow the early year’s foundation framework, which outline our thoughts on ‘Key Persons’.
On starting in the nursery, your Childs key person will introduce himself or herself to parents, this person will be responsible in informing you about your Childs sessions in the nursery.
This will be done by your Childs key person completing a day book from the Baby room, Toddler room in the Pre-school room this will be done verbally, your Childs key person will also be responsible for recording observations and gathering evidence of their progress for profiles which can be viewed upon request.
Summerhill Day Nursery is one of the few nurseries on the Wirral to be part of the†Wirral Healthy Nurseries Award in partnership with the NHS, Primary
Care Trust and Sure Start.
We provide healthy Meals:
• Breakfast is served around 9.00am
• Lunch around 12.00pm
• Snack around 3.30pm
Our menu is varied and is on display for you to view at any time; all meals are well balanced and prepared with fresh fruit and vegetables to encourage the “5 a dayâ€, fresh milk and drinking water is also provided, all dietary requirements will be catered for.
At Summerhill, we have an open door policy so there is no need to book appointments, you can visit us at anytime Monday – Friday, 8.00am- 6.00pm
Our Nursery manager/Room supervisors will show you around all aspects of the nursery, introducing you to all of the staff including your Childs key person, also giving you the opportunity to view our policies and procedures and ask any questions that you may have.

Baby room aged from 3 months- 2 years
“Babies first discovery of texture, sounds, touch and the use of all sensesâ€
We cater for babies from 12 weeks old; you are invited to make use of our settling in period, which enables you to accompany your child for short sessions prior to starting the nursery helping to ease any of your concerns.
Healthy meals are prepared on site, fresh milk and water are provided, however if your child is on baby milk we ask you to provide this along with nappies and wipes.
The staff within the Baby room also follows each Childs home routine, so we will request a home routine form to be filled in before starting the nursery.

Toddler room 2-3 years
“Everyday is an adventure just waiting to happenâ€
Within the Toddler room, there are numerous activities and designated areas for your child to access at all times, these areas include:
• Painting/Mark making
• Sand and Water
• Construction area
• Books/Quiet area
• Home corner
Staff will also provide activities to suit all children’s abilities, enabling all the children to learn and grow at their Own Individual Paces.
There is also a Sleep/Sensory Room for children to relax and have a nap if requested; again, we do ask parents to provide nappies and wipes, we are more than happy to assist in potty/toilet training.

Pre-School 3-5years
“Where the fun of learning is brought to lifeâ€
As I have already mentioned, we follow the EFYS throughout the nursery, within pre-school the EYFS requires a Wirral Foundation Record that will be filled in, this record is then passed onto your Childs School, ensuring that they are aware of how your child is progressing in terms of learning, enabling them to progress through Foundation stage 2
Reading books and work sheets are also sent home on request, which will give you opportunities to be come involved in your Childs progress
Parents evenings are also available upon request, giving you the chance to see how your child is learning and progressing.

Many parents wonder about what their child may be doing in nursery, below are just a few of the activities children at Summerhill participate in:

Also throughout the year, we have many fun days, which include; sports day, picnic day and themed days such as pirate day, which have always proved to be a great success.

How we deliver this and what it means

It has been recorded, that in playing, children learn at their highest level, so how do we achieve this:
• To treat every child as a unique child, to do this we monitor individual children development, evidence of this is in your Childs profile, we also keep children safe, promote their health and well being and ensure inclusive practice
• Have positive relationships, we pride ourselves on the positive relationships that we build with both children and parents/carers also respecting parents and children, the bond your child will have with their key person is important ensuring they feel safe and secure which helps support their learning and development.
• Have enabling environments, our learning environment is rich and varied, there is continuous provision to support every Childs learning needs. Staff observe and plan activities to suit each Childs individual stage of learning and development, we also work with other agencies such as health visitors, speech & language therapists to ensure that all needs are met.
• Learning and development, we provide the opportunities to play & explore ensuring active learning, we promote the six areas of development which are:
1. PSE Development, we help build confidence, attitude, self-esteem, positive relationships, behaviour, and self-control.
2. Creativity, we encourage children to be creative, dance, explore, music and to play imaginatively.
3. Physical, we encourage children’s movement and special awareness along with making them aware of their own bodies and health.
4. KUW, we introduce exploration and investigation into play encouraging design making, IT, time, place, and cultures.
5. PSRN, your child will thrive in learning about numbers, counting, shapes, space, and measures.
6. CLL, we encourage language for communication and thinking; we encourage linking sounds and letters, reading, writing and hand writing.
