Studio-Five Workshops

Studio-Five Workshops

Elstree Film Studios, Shenley Road, Borehamwood ,
Writer James Moran and Writer/Director Dan Turner have set up a series of hands-on workshops to share their experiences and to help budding creatives improve their skills. Based at Elstree Studios, classes will consist of no more than 30 attendees and are fun and relaxed, with emphasis on creating the right atmosphere for people to learn and be creative. It's not about preaching to people, but nurturing talent and passing along tips and tools that both James and Dan have accumulated in their careers to date. James and Dan began working together in 2009 on their successful multi-platform series "Girl Number 9" and found they shared similar feelings about the film and television industries. In particular they both agreed there should be more resources available to people just starting out as filmmakers. The idea was to create an affordable series of workshops and events combining learning and developing skills as well as providing advice and support on working in the industry. "Its all about generating confidence and building a bridge between people just starting out and the film and television industry." James explains. Dan, who also lectures on filmmaking at Norwich University, adds "There are so many talented people out there who want to know how to get into the industry and how they can improve their skills. We just want to help them by sharing our experiences". Both Dan and James agree that many of the services out there for writers and filmmakers are just too expensive and often run by people who don't necessarily have the experience to back up either their fees or their advice. "I certainly couldn't have afforded many of the services out there when I started out," Dan agrees. "Our workshops will be hands-on. Interacting one-on-one with people and picking off pieces of our brains so that people don't have to make the same mistakes we did!" James concludes. Future workshops will feature talks by well-known actors, producers, screenwriters and will offer filmmaking competitions and challenges.
