Verna's Pepper Shack
Pepper Shack combines Verna Armitage's Trinidad Specialities with Local Seafood and Great Steaks from local chef Chris Sandford. Out front, Verna's husband John tries to keep it all together with a warm Family Welcome, Relaxed Service and a well-stocked Bar.
We're open most of the day from Tuesday to Saturday:

Winter Tuesdays see special pricing on steaks for both lunch and dinner sessions - 8oz rump at £10, 16oz rump £13, 6oz fillet £13, 8oz sirloin £13, 10oz ribeye £13. Deals for two are two 8oz rump and a bottle of house wine for £30 and 2 of the £13 steak plus a bottle of house wine for £35.
We source as much as we can from local suppliers - Brixham seafood, local steaks from Savill's in Galmpton, Westcountry goat, Dartmoor ales, Healey's Cornish Cyder, Cornish Spring Water, Devon white wine and even sauces from South Devon Chilli Farm, Somerset & Devon cheeses.
Jamaica Jerk Chicken, Curry Goat and Peas & Rice are the Carnival favourites, joined by Callaloo Soup, Spicy Prawns, Ackee & home-made Saltfish plus our own Pepper Pork, Legendary Lamb Shank, Trinidad Chicken & King Prawn Curry and the local seafood fusion Shack Scallop & Monkfish Curry.
The local menu offers chef's own pate, classic Moules Mariniere, Scallops & Hogs, Lemon Sole and Crab Linguini. The all home-made menu is completed by Sticky Toffee Puuding, Banoffee Pie, Rum Panacotta, fresh Pineapple and our own Ice Creams.
The bar will be offering Carib lager - Trinidad's finest - and Peroni. We have 8 or more different Caribbean rums, Tequila, Armagnac, Cognac and Calvados plus a developing cocktail menu. Wines come from around the world.
Caribbean decorations include Verna's own Carnival costumes and period posters. The family rugby associations are shown off in the framed rugby shirts.
During the day we play a mix of Caribbean and other music while John tries to find a relaxed selection of blues and his other favourites for dinner.
Pepper Shack sits up to 30 or so diners and is available for Private Bookings from Monday through to Thursday.
