Chichester Festival Theatre is one of the UK’s flagship theatres. It’s annual Festival runs from April to October and takes place in the 1206-seat Festival Theatre and the 283-seat Minerva Theatre.
The Festival Theatre opened in 1962 under the directorship of Sir Laurence Olivier. Today Jonathan Church, Artistic Director, and Alan Finch, Executive Director have completed six Festival seasons and are responsible for increasing annual attendance by 87%.
2012 marked the 50th Anniversary of the opening of the Theatre and celebrations commenced with the transfer of three sell-out productions from the 2011 Festival Season: Singin’ in the Rain, directed by Jonathan Church, opened in the Palace Theatre in February, Sweeney Todd, featuring Michael Ball and Imelda Staunton, opened in the Adelphi Theatre in March and the double-bill, South Downs and The Browning Version, with Anna Chancellor and Nicholas Farrell, transfers to the Harold Pinter Theatre from April. Patrick Stewart also reprised his lead role in BINGO by Edward Bond (from Festival 2010), directed by CFT Associate Director Angus Jackson, in a co-production at the Young Vic during February and March.
