An ancient log boat, cannonballs from the civil war and the town stocks – just some of the things you can see at Congleton Museum. The museum houses tableaux illustrating life in the town during prehistoric times, in the Civil War, in the heyday of the textile industry and during the Second World War. Figures from the past tell their stories, and interactive computers fill in the background. Relief maps show the changes over the centuries. A prize exhibit is the Astbury log boat, which dates from the tenth century. The Civil War was particularly significant to Congleton – a former mayor of the town, John Bradshaw, was first to sign Charles I’s death warrant. A cannonball from that time, still embedded in a piece of wall from Biddulph Hall, is in the museum. There are frequent temporary exhibitions, often involving the work of local schools. History walks through the town take place on the last Sunday of the month, followed by a home made cream tea.

I am a trained Person-Centred Counsellor and take pride in offering a personal and friendly counselling service in Congleton town centre. I trained as a counsellor after experiencing how counselling changed my own life, and as a result, I am passionate about helping other people improve their own quality of life. Since qualifying, i have helped a wide range of clients benefit from exploring how their feelings or actions affect their mood and behavior, and it is a privilege to see people make some longed-for differences to their lives. In 2011 I trained in Rewind Technique for Post Traumatic Stress with Dr. David Muss, Director of the Post Traumatic Stress Disorder Unit, BMI Hospital, Birmingham. In March 2013 I attended a CBT masterclass with Professor Windy Dryden. I’ve undertaken numerous other training days and monthly supervision sessions to keep my skills up to date.

The instruction attempts to be truthful to the principles expressed by the founder of Aikido, Morihei Ueshiba, by maintaining regular contact with many of the founder's original students from Hombu (Headquarters) Dojo in Tokyo. There are two great classes to attend, a beginners class and a "senior" class. Anyone over the age of 12 years old is welcome. Beginners: 5:30pm to help with laying of the mats. The sooner they are down, the sooner the class begins.Official class time is 6:00pm-7:00pm Seniors: 7:00pm - 9:00pm Our mat fees have not changed since we opened.
