Tameside Sight relies on donations, membership fees (£5 a year per member) and legacies to fund its various clubs and groups. Amongst its many services, the Association provides help through the well-establish Support Project. The Support Project team are available to provide a range of practical support services for all visually impaired people in Tameside, as well as their carers. If the staff can’t help directly, then they will recommend contacts where appropriate support may be available. Y.A.T. was formed in 1974 by a small group of like minded people who wanted to offer something diffrent to the children of the Tameside area. We provide activities including caving, climbing (indoor and outdoor) canoeing , Orienteering and fell walking trips. We are a chairty based organisation and only ask for a donation. Our instructors all give up there time freely with the intention of getting kids of the streets and out into the countryside, and under it. We offer group sessions for kids fun or can arrange team building events for "older kids". We encourage all groups memebers to have a go at what ever activity it is they choose. We dont like to accept " i cant do it" we prefer " I tried but couldnt manage it" We now offer training and final expedition for the Duke Of Edinbourgh award scheme. Our instructors are qualified at many levels and many skills, we are always looking for adults to assist and train to competent certification levels in all the activities mentioned above. you can put in as much or as little time as you want although we do like to see everyone at least once a month even if just for a natter. Instructors meet weekly on a Monday night between 8 and 10 pm for a catch up.
