Groovy UK

The History Behind Groovy UK Ltd Monique founded Groovy in 1991 opening 3 gift stores over a 2 year period. The passion was for design and uniqueness so sourcing products was an adventure. When sourcing innovative products became more of a challenge Monique set up Groovy Distribution Ltd in 2003 to design and manufacture products in China for the Groovy stores and other retail customers like The Gadget Shop and The Discovery Store. Groovy Distribution later changed to Groovy UK Ltd. When the distribution side of the business started to generate more income than the retail side of the company Monique closed the stores to concentrate on distribution. As some of Groovys biggest customers also became competitors on unlicensed products Groovy decided to concentrate only on licenses with the first license agreement being the Playboy brand and the company soon grew to £6 million turnover in 2007. Groovy UK Ltd has a very good reputation in the licensed gift marketplace due to the high profile success of the Playboy brand and the great and extensive product ranges Groovy created, the Playboy brand was so successful and far reaching many doors opened because of it. Groovy sells in most EU countries and has representation in China which enables quick turn around on new designs. In 2007 the directors saw the need to increase the license portfolio, with the decline in Playboy’s popularity, so more licenses were brought on board e.g. Star Wars, Dr Who, Only Fools and Horses, Hello Kitty, Marvel, DC Comics, and more. The purpose behind this license expansion strategy was to create a level of exclusivity in a highly competitive marketplace.
