QE Gateshead
Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Avenue, Sheriff Hill,
Gateshead
,
We are QE Gateshead....
...and run the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Dunston Hill Day Hospital, QE Metro Riverside and some services at Bensham Hospital, all within Gateshead.
We also run services from Blaydon Primary Care Centre and Washington Primary Care Centre as well as a specialist 12 bedded unit in Houghton-le-Spring for patients who require rehabilitation care.
As well as a full range of local hospital services, we provide breast screening services for Gateshead, South Tyneside, Sunderland and parts of Durham – and we are the North Eastern hub for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme. This covers an area east of the Pennines stretching from the Scottish border to Humber, a population of around seven million people.
We were one of the first foundation trusts in the country, established in 2005 and we pride ourselves on the quality and excellence of our services and have received national awards for this.
We employ more than 3,000 people, most of whom live within the area and we are the second biggest employer in Gateshead.
Our strategic aims for the future and for the development of our services are:
• providing the best possible quality of services and care
• offering rapid, responsive and accessible services
• running first class hospitals
• being the best possible employer
• making the best possible use of public money
• gaining appropriate recognition of our achievements
The links the Trust and its staff have with our members, voluntary organisations and our partners across the local health economy and the wider community are greatly valued and hugely important in the development and delivery of services.
Throughout the whole Trust and in all of our business, we adhere to strict rules ensuring we are using taxpayers money responsibly. Monitor, the organisation that examines our performance and finances, created these rules, or regulatory framework, for us to follow.
