Bluebird Care (Newcastle) provides a wide range of home care and support services to people of all ages and disabilities in their community including respite and live-in care in Newcastle and the surrounding areas. Home Care Service Area Bluebird Care (Newcastle) covers all areas of Newcastle City borough council and includes; Gosforth, Kingston Park, Fawdon, Fenham, Heaton, Westerhope, Walkergate and surrounding areas. What we do Our philosophy is simple; we aim to provide care and support to enable people to live an active, holistic, safe and independent life as possible. Through a good old fashioned service and a ‘can do attitude’, this has been built around a passion to deliver high quality care and an unprecedented level of service. We care passionately about what we do, operating to the highest standards and never over promise or under deliver. Treating each customer with the dignity and respect they deserve, as if they were a member of our own family. One of the thing that sets us apart from other care providers, is the fact that we use the word 'customer', not 'service user' or' client'. We pride ourselves on offering excellent customer service as well as industry leading care. Bluebird Care is registered to provide home care and support services to the following customer groups: Older people Adults with physical disabilities Adults with sensory impairment People with dementia People discharged from hospital with re-enablement or temporary care needs People living with a terminal illness or life-limiting condition People with learning difficulties Children services Our Care Worker's are the lifeblood of our service, they are friendly, professional, highly trained and above all passionate about the care they give, giving you the confidence and support you need. Each member is handpicked following a through recruitment process which includes enhanced police check. When any of us are faced with a situation that any additional care is required, for yourself, a loved one, or a friend – it’s often thought that a stark choice is either to struggle to live self-sufficiently (without help) in your own surroundings or ‘go into a home’. Here at Bluebird Care (Newcastle) we offer a realistic alternative to residential care, and allow people to stay in the comfort of their own home, with familiar surroundings, and with their friends and family around them. No upheaval, no stress, and no trouble associated with having to move into a care home. Our care workers can provide support and assistance that enables you to continue with simple pleasures such as a walk, going to the shops, or just spending time out in the garden, but most importantly allowing you to live in the home you love. Care visits are tailored to your requirements and can be from 15 minutes upwards. There is no upper limit, and respite and live-in services are available. We offer total flexibility and your care plan can be altered to your needs at any time. Some of the home care services we offer are: Assistance with ‘starting the day’ i.e. helping to get up, wash/shower/bath, get dressed and have breakfast. We can assist with shopping, either taking the customer out with us or, alternatively we can come in, agree a shopping list, go to the shops, come back and put it all away. We can prepare food and drink. We can help assist or prompt medication. We can do domestic tasks such as, cleaning, laundry, and ironing, either on a regular basis or as a spring clean. We can provide respite services. Where a member of the family is a principal carer there maybe the need a break to allow that person time for themselves, maybe a couple of times a week. Alternatively, a weekend/week breaks. Some people would benefit from a pampering session once or twice a week. A nice bath and then clean clothes, a changed bed and a nice meal before bedtime. Assistance with ‘ending the day’, some help with getting to bed etc. We provide services through the night for those people who need them. This can either be on a ‘sleeper night’ basis, where the care worker expects a reasonable night’s sleep but is on hand for emergencies, or a ‘waking night’ where the care worker is on duty throughout the night. This is only a selection of what we do, if you don’t see what is you are looking for or you just want some advice don’t hesitate to get in touch. Learning Disabilities Many people with learning disabilities have potential skills and talents which are often overlooked. Our trained and experienced care workers and personal assistants are able to support customers to build confidence and learn to use their skills and talents through participation in meaningful activities. We will help facilitate lifelong learning, allowing opportunities to develop and extend skills. We can help facilitate safe outdoor/indoor leisure activities with qualified, highly experienced and trained professional instructors such as: Canoeing Rock Climbing Problem Solving Orienteering Abseiling/Zip Wire Skiing Swimming These will aim to improve quality of life and extend individuals social network. The communication needs and behavior of some people with learning disabilities sometimes poses challenges to services and in some cases may lead to reduced social inclusion. Our individual approach to planning and delivering services is designed to meet the specific needs of the customer, many of whom are young adults living in their own flats or with family; who sometimes are older carers needing some form of support to maintain their caring role. Dementia Care For most people with dementia who require care the ideal environment in which to receive this care would be surroundings familiar to them, which in many cases is their home. People are more likely to feel safe in their own home, have no need for re-orientation and probably feel more confident to maintain their independence and dignity. We have a good understanding of the care and support needs of people with dementia and our specially trained care workers and live-in personal assistants are equipped to deliver the required care. We will also work towards, if appropriate and the choice of the customer and family to develop a personalised program of social activities to provide stimulation aimed at an improved quality of life. Some of our customer testimonials Thanks to everyone at Bluebird Care for the support, kindness and compassion shown to myself and my family and for the wonderful care given to my precious wife Kathleen whilst she was being looked after at our home. Bluebird Care is a professional, forward looking organisation who always put the well being of their customers first. Staff are vetted, well trained, flexible, friendly, punctual and reliable and above all they show compassion and understanding. You can have complete peace of mind if your loved one is being cared for by Bluebird Care. I would highly recommend Bluebird Care to anyone considering in-home care or help – I don’t believe you would find better anywhere. On a personal note a special thank you is sent to Christine - who regularly took Kathleen out for ‘tea and cake’, and who is a role model for carers everywhere to aspire to. Bluebird Care became involved in supporting my 92 yr old dad living at home following discharge from hospital and I have been hugely impressed with the care, support and particularly flexibility that they have offered. Dad’s care needs changed rapidly over the course of a weekend and we were able to immediately contact the team and escalate his care within an hour of discussion. The relief for me that he was safe and well cared for is immense. The carers are all compassionate and professional and again willing to flexibly respond to dad’s needs. They go the extra mile and not only arrange things like the delivery of equipment, but also work seamlessly with other health care professionals to ensure he has all of his needs met. I am a consultant physician and know how hard it is to provide this kind of excellence in care and cannot recommend the agency highly enough. Dad’s GP has also commented on how impressed he has been by the care manager. Due to circumstances with our previous care provider, we decided that we needed a change of care for my mother who has Alzheimer’s disease. We approached Bluebird Care having read some literature about the company and met with David & Jackie in the Boldon office to discuss what kind of service they could provide. From the outset we found Bluebird Care to be very professional and great listeners which were very important to us as it helped us to be reassured that we were doing the right thing in changing care provider. As most people will understand, Alzheimer’s sufferers can be difficult to deal with. The Bluebird care team have shown my mother the utmost respect in dealing with her personal care needs; they are caring, adaptable and very flexible in their approach. Nothing has been a problem to them. They are providing the kind of care we would all wish for ourselves and our loved ones. As I have gone to hell and back with Care companies in the past, it was refreshing to meet the Bluebird Care Team. I found them a great team; caring, compassionate, and understanding to my mine and my mother’s situation. My mother is 90 yrs old and it is nice to see a smile on her face once more, this is all down to Bluebird Care. So all I can say is a big thank you to Bluebird Care for all that you are doing for my mother. Thank you so much for your care these past few months, your girls have been really helpful in getting me back on my feet. Just a quick note to thank you for what you did for my mother. When I went away with the Territorial Army in October it was good to know that there is an organisation that could provide live-in care 24/7, rather than put my mother into a residential home. On returning home, my mother was full of praise for what Jackie and Angie did for her, and she could not find one negative word to say about the both of them, which also impressed me. Finally, I would like to thank you once again, and I would not hesitate in using your services again. Thank you very much for all your help. Keith and Robert got on very well together. I was very impressed at your flexibility and how you managed to arrange someone at such short notice to keep an eye on Robert. Likewise, I am indebted to Keith for his support. Keith’s presence with Robert gave me peace of mind and enabled me to attend the latter half of my training session. The staff member who is my main carer has an amiable character and is of a caring nature. It is always difficult when you introduce someone into your home and rely upon them to see your ever increasing needs. However, the member of staff very quickly eased my reservations. I have developed a bond very quickly with the member of staff and feel comfortable with him as my carer. As the member of staff attends my home regularly it is important that all the members of my family are comfortable and at ease. My family have all warmed to the member of staff and acknowledge that the care he is providing is given with professionalism and thoughtfulness; and they also feel comfortable with him playing an integral part of our family life. The member of staff has impeccable time keeping and can be relied upon to be on time. In addition to his agreed care hours I have on occasions contacted him for emergency support and he has always on every occasion made himself available and within a very short time. This is in addition to his agreed care hours. To know you have someone who will respond in this way without hesitation is very comforting. The member of staff is always willing and able to support me. I am really happy with the standard of care and commitment provided by Bluebird Care, I was reluctant to accept help in looking after my husband and am afraid in that department am not good at delegating, but the staff member is very good with Joe and during the mornings that they come I can have a little time to myself and also save my energy for the rest of the day. It is a comfort to know that in the future if I was feeling under the weather there would be someone there for Joe, due to the fact that I can have as little or as much help as I need. Obviously this has not been the case in the past four years. It is also very good that I have been able to leave Joe in Bluebird care while I had an overnight stay in London and that was very successful as well as having to go down again for a day with the full knowledge that he will be well looked after and even more important that he enjoyed it himself. I think to a full time carer like myself it is a huge step to take to accept this kind of help but am happy to say that for me and Joe it is all working well. Having looked at other organisations to provide care for my mum, I chose Bluebird Care because I felt that they offered the best option, save doing the job myself. I may be paying slightly more than other organisations but I do believe that I am paying for a quality service -care is not something that can be skimped upon. I have found David and Jackie to be very approachable. They have listened to what we felt mum needed and have been supportive to me as well as my mum. The Carers who visit mum are friendly and treat mum with dignity, whilst the daily feedback that they provide has been a useful insight into how my mum behaves with other people and I can see how well she is eating, without my needing to be there.
