Cluny Castle
Cluny Castle, situated in the tranquil undulating farmland of Aberdeenshire known as Gordon Country, is hidden from view by over two hundred acres of landscaped policies. Dating back to 14th century it continues to be a much loved home of the Gordons of Cluny. Between 1820 and 1870 a smaller castle was transformed into the magnificent crenellated mansion that exists today. The name “Cluny†originates from the Gaelic word for ‘meadow’, and at Cluny Castle superb exuberant architecture and beautiful grounds of a great Scottish castle combine perfectly to create a secluded and romantic pastoral retreat.
Each year there are a few dates available for weddings. Perfect for the ultimate fairytale wedding beyond compare, Cluny has its own Chapel with stunningly beautiful stained glass windows, dark oak pews, and a seating capacity for 100 guests. As well as having its own entrance, it is incorporated within the Castle, so the bride can dress in a bedroom suite, and arrive through a separate entrance without going outside. There is also disabled access.
For the reception party, the sweeping lawns and grounds provide a truly superb setting for a marquee, with drinks served in front of the castle and a piper playing bagpipes on the ramparts. Floodlit at night, and fireworks to end the evening, if chosen by the client, illuminating the castle and lawns, brides and grooms and their guests never fail to be enraptured by the romance and majesty of this great castle.
A dedicated wedding planner with detailed knowledge of the Castle will help the bride and groom choose from the different packages available, and with every aspect of planning their special day.
As well as being used for a number of smaller films, Cluny Castle was one of the main locations for ‘The Queen’ starring Helen Mirren. Without obligations to be open to the public, Cluny Castle provides maximum flexibility for production teams.
During the day or at night, Cluny creates a stunning setting. It has been the chosen venue for private dinners for major companies, and also for summer balls with up to 250 guests. As a private home and not open to the public it offers a relaxing and exclusive setting for lunches, or dinners, concerts, and conferences. Its grounds can accommodate a variety of team building activities depending on the season.
