The Forum has been a registered charity since 1996 when it was set up to help rehabilitate long term patients in the old Victorian mental hospital in Friern Barnet. Over the years, this 100% service user organisation has set up numerous and highly successful projects which were needed by the mental community. Examples included 18 Highbury Grove which provides residential facilities in a therapeutic setting and is an alternative to hospital admission ; the Creativity Centre at Isledon Road mental health resource centre for artistically talented service users and Islington Music Forum which is extremely successful particularly for younger people who find traditional schooling difficult and are referred by Social Services. Our latest project provides outdoor music concerts at the Nags Head shopping centre every two weeks where service users perform to the shoppers to great acclaim and has been designated a " model " mental health project by the Cripplegate Trust . We want to continue with our valuable work which is much appreciated by Islington's general community but our annual funding has been cancelled by Islington Council. We are in urgent need of funds to continue setting up new projects and we also want to focus on the mental health needs of older people. There is a great deal to do in mental health which has been traditionally under funded and known to be the Cinderella of the NHS. We badly need funds.....please help in any way you can. Vision Islington is a quest, involving everyone from Islington who wants to join in and explore how to help more young people in Islington reach their full potential. Its aim is to involve young people from Islington in co-creating and co-managing new ways to build the best outcomes for all of the young people living in the Borough.

"Our Story" will be an online audio archive of family stories from members of the Islington community; the stories, which will be 5-10 minutes long, will be told by any two family members (i.e. mother-daughter, father-son, grandparent-grandchild, etc) and can cover any topic. The purpose of this archive is three-fold: first, it will promote and strengthen the craft of story telling. Participants will be encouraged to bring photographs or objects that are significant to them; in addition, guides will be provided to participants to help organise their memories The second aim of "Our Story" will be to foster communication and restrengthen family relationships; through the process of recalling their story, both family members will be forced into dialogue, examining why that particular memory had relevance. Lastly, "Our Story" aims to strengthen the community of Islington; by showcasing different family stories, we can highlight universal family dynamics, helping re-humanize community members who are often perceived as not one of us. Our team envisions this archive as an ongoing project that can benefit and include the entire Islington community, as well as inspire other communities to think of ways to find solidarity.
