Liverpool as a city is steeped in Irish culture and history. Every corner you turn you meet an irish person or someone with Irish relations. Even the univservities have many ties with the Irish community and also boast huge numbers of Irish people. All the universities within the city have Gaelic football teams and these teams have been at the top of the British university GAA scence for years. With more of these students staying in Liverpool after graduation and more Irish people arriving in the city due to emigration from Ireland the club has been set up to provide more Gaelic Football here in the city. From the clubs birth in March 2010 the club has continued to grow from strength to strength and it was decided to start regular competitive football in 2011. The club is affiliated with the Lancashire GAA county board, the province of Britain and Croke Park back in Ireland. The club began its first year of competitive football in March 2011 in the Lancashire Junior Championship, the Lancashire junior league, thw wolfe tone league and the Pennine League Division 2. In the first year the club reached 3 finals and a semi final. In 2012 the lads team have been promoted up to Senior football level in Lancashire. In August 2011 the club decided it was again time to expand and therefore the Liverpool Wolfe Tones ladies team was started. The girls started off with great success with over 40 girls out over the first few weeks. The ladies team start it's competitive football in a North-West club/university compeitition with the local universities and clubs competiting. The ladies will also join the Lancashire county GAA competitions and British ladies GAA competitions is 2012. Everyone is welcome at Liverpool Wolfe Tones GAA.
