The Border Union Agricultural Society was formed at a public meeting in the Cross Keys Inn on 22nd January 1813 under the Chairmanship of the Duke of Roxburghe. The aims were to give Premiums for the best stock of different kinds and for discoveries in agriculture. Since then, the Society has grown in size and prominence and principally holds 3 core events each year: a Championship Dog Show, a two day Annual Agricultural Show and the world famous Cydectin Kelso Ram Sales. It also hosts many other events throughout the year, some of which have no agricultural connection. 22nd January 2013 marks the Bicentenary of the Border Union which is being celebrated throughout the year, with HRH The Countess of Wessex as patron of the society.
