Lisburn City Paddlers or LCP was formed in October 2008 by a small group of paddlers from the Lisburn and Greater Belfast areas.We are fully affiliated to our Governing Body The Canoe Association of Northern Ireland (CANI). Members are interested in most aspects of the sport including whitewater kayaking, surfing, open canadian canoeing (both touring and flat water) and canoe slalom. The emphasis at present is on river running, sheltered flat water paddling and surf. We have plans to introduce pool training sessions in the very near future. A few members have paddled in the French Alps and the Julian Alps in Slovenia on summer trips. Members joining LCP may fall into three categories; beginners, those with recent previous experience and juniors. Beginners (Or those who are looking to get back on the water after a 'paddling break'.) The club organises several 6 week dedicated learner sessions each year, aswell as one off training days. Please make contact via the Forum or the "Contact Us" feature on the web site to find out when the next course will be running. For insurance purposes you are required to join the club prior to the course. A small charge will apply to cover costs. Previous Experience (With Equipment) If you have previous experience and have your own equipment then it's a simple matter of getting in touch through the "Contact Us" feature on the site. Arrangements will be made to have a taster session before you join the club. If you are not an LCP member but would like to join one of our paddles and are CANI affliated then get in touch also, prior to the paddle. Previous Experience (Without your own Equipment) Again make contact through the "Contact Us" feature. The club has access to a wide range of equipment. Arrangements can be made to loan out equipment (subject to a small charge) and a taster session organised to assess your capabilities. Under no circumstances can persons with or without experience attend club sessions without seeking approval beforehand. You may be required to provide proof of CANI membership.
