Richmond upon Thames Literature Festival
Now into its 21st year, the Richmond Upon Thames continues to be a calendar highlight for the borough and beyond.
With what has been a memorable summer for London with the Jubilee celebrations and the country’s Olympic endeavors, the Richmond Literature Festival has chosen to compliment this with events that provide compelling and unique opinions on a country that has had so much focus this year.
Similarly to last year, the festival is forever trying to expand its possibilities and this year the festival’s three central programmes are back. Catering for everyone from small children up to the borough’s sages, the Main Programme, The Fringe and The Young People’s festival have it all.
Away from the headliners who will undoubtedly draw the crowds, like Andrew Marr, Sir Trevor McDonald, Jack Straw and David Suchet, the Richmond Literature Festival brings together endearing events like Irene Wise’s talk on Maurice Sendak with children authors Nicholas Allan and Ian Beck to encourage an inviting, family atmosphere. The innovation continues with the Literary Salon, a pop-up space inhabiting an empty shop in the borough designed to elicit creativity with its workshops on comic book designing, poetry, storytelling and more.
As always, Richmond itself plays a significant role in the Festival with a variety of buildings acting as hosts throughout November. To compliment this, guests can embrace events like the community Craft Fair, the Stephen Cooper talk on a very unique history of a certain Richmond sporting club and finally, a celebration of one of Twickenham’s most eminent inhabitants, Alexander Pope.
We look forward to seeing you this November.
