John Ferneley College

John Ferneley College

John Ferneley College, Scalford Rd, Melton Mowbray ,
Welcome from the Principal In recent years, I have had the enviable opportunity of leading John Ferneley College through an exciting period of change and growth. Our new college building, opened in April 2010, was purpose-built to provide a modern learning environment and every element of the design was created to enrich the student experience. With its five learning zones, student-focused timetable and comprehensive curriculum, I believe that John Ferneley College represents the direction many schools will take in the future. I am also proud of the strong partnerships and collaborations we have fostered with other schools and further education colleges to be able to provide the full range of the 11-19 curriculum. This website aims to give you an overview of the John Ferneley experience but if there is anything else you would like to know, you are welcome to contact us at ask@johnferneley.org.uk or ring 01664 565901 to arrange a visit. You may also wish to follow my blog, where I will regularly update you on college life. Chris Robinson, Principal

Melton Mowbray Skatepark

Melton Mowbray Skatepark

Burton Street, Melton Mowbray ,
Melton Mowbray Skatepark is situated in Priors Close in the centre of Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. It was opened in 2007 after years of campaigning and fundraising by the local people and borough council in Melton Mowbray. The idea for a skatepark in Melton Mowbray started back in 2001, when the wooden halfpipe that used to be situated in the town was starting to show its age. A small group, that amongst others consisted of Daniel Wakefield, Duncan Greene, Richard Walton and Mark Rankine, began to approach the Melton Borough Council with the idea and started gathering signatures for petitions to show the desire for a skatepark in the town. Talks began going well with the council and support rapidly grew within the local skating community. Soon after, the official campaigning group "Melton Skaters" was born, who's goal was to raise awareness and funds for the skatepark. Melton Skaters held a number of fundraising events including tombola stalls at Christmas markets, music concerts and selling merchandise. Melton Skaters featured regularly in the local newspaper and members Daniel Wakefield and Duncan Greene were interviewed on the local radio stations. A number of years passed by with numerous fundraising events and council meetings, and eventually ground was broken in February 2007 to start work on the skatepark. After a few months of building, the skatepark was officially opened to the public in July 2007. Key people supporting the skatepark within Melton Borough Council were Pam Posnett, Paul Barker and Ronan Browne. These people were critical to the success and fruition of the skatepark within the Melton Borough Council. Key people supporting the skatepark from within the local community were Daniel Wakefield and Duncan Greene. Sadly Daniel Wakefield passed away in 2007, and the skatepark is dedicated to his memory.
