The 2012 ‘SplashUp’ is going to be one of the most exciting FREE water sports and musical events in South Wales. The event will showcase the town of Porthcawl as one of the leading venues in Wales for watersports and lifestyle attractions. It takes place in Rest Bay, the Esplanade and in Porthcawl town centre on Saturday 20th October, from 8am-11pm. Below Events include: ----COMPETITIONS---- IRON MAN & DIAMOND LADY COMPETITION Curated by the Rest Bay Lifeguard Club -www.restbaylifeguards.org.uk Lifeguards from across the country will compete in this gruelling and extremely athletic competition consists of 4 elements swimming, board paddle, ski canoe and running. CASH PRIZE will be awarded to the top 3 successful competitors. JUNIOR SURF COMPETITION Curated by the Welsh Surfing Federation -www.welshsurfingfederation.org.uk Young surfers from across the country compete in a Welsh Surfing Federation Junior ranking event with a CASH PRIZE for the top 4 Junior Surfers. It is aiming be one of the most exciting and awe inspiring events for locals, visitors and surf enthusiasts alike. Invitational competition only. ----WORKSHOPS---- SUP (STAND UP PADDLE SURFING) Curated by the Adventures Wales -www.adventureswales.co.uk/standup-paddle-surfing Stand Up Paddle Surfing is the new exciting sport, considered the worlds fastest growing watersport. From its polynesian origins in the Hawain Islands. An alternative to surfing which is now becoming extremely popular in the surf and on flat water lakes and rivers. Adventures Wales are offering FREE paddle surf workshops for those keen to get advice and help with the new activity. They will also be able to give Free Taster Sessions to a limited amount of people. (They will need to pre book their place by e mailing directly nigel@adventureswales.co.uk) SURF AWARENESS WORKSHOP Curated by Porthcawl Surf School - www.porthcawlsurf.co.uk Workshops will commence on the hour from 10am to 5pm in the Porthcawl Surf School Trailer based on the Esplanade. Subjects covered in the 30 min workshops include: The beach environment, Rips and currents, How to stay out of danger, What to do if you get into trouble, What causes waves, Types of waves, Surfing etiquette, Understanding surf forecasts for Porthcawl, and Surf beaches of Porthcawl. Each participant will receive a free Surf Tide Table, free Surf Wax. Very Special Offers for Splashup Visitors!!! BRUSHBOARDING Curated by the Extreme Sports Zone Ltd -www.brushboarding.com Brushboarding is a an interactive fitness attraction that enhances core strength balance and coordination, transferable to all sports. The Brush ramp is safe, environmentally friendly and enhances key skills transferable to all board sports without needing to get wet thanks to it's dry slope patented technology.
