Our 19th century former crofthouse is beautifully located next to the River Snizort, with open views over the hills and beyond plenty of walks from the door. We are perfectly positioned central to Skye and only 4 miles from Portree, the Island's Capital, with it's range of shops and places to eat. We are both on hand to help you get the most out of your stay on Skye and can offer you lots of tips on places to visit, walk, eat and drink on the island. Mark is particularly handy with a map and knows plenty of walks to suit all abilities. Sam is an imaginative and experienced cook, with a keen eye for interior design. We are both committed Vegetarians, however we welcome those who might just want to reduce their meat intake, and you will also find our menu boasts a really good range for our Vegan visitors. Fáilte gu Ben Tianavaig – a warm welcome to our friendly Bed & Breakfast located in the heart of Portree…… Ben Tianavaig is run by Charlotte & Bill Johnson, and we are delighted to welcome you to our Facebook Page, and our home. We are open all year round so our guests can enjoy all the island has to offer whatever the season. Ben Tianavaig is a distinctive terracotta-coloured house within the Portree conservation area. We look out over Portree Harbour with panoramic views of the Cuillins’, the Braes’, Ben Tianavaig hill, and beyond Loch Portree, to the Isle of Raasay. We are also only a few minutes walk from the centre of Portree - all the shops, restaurants, bars & pubs, banks and the harbour, are easily accessible from the B&B. We have 4 guest bedrooms, 2 (double/twins) at ground floor level and 2 (double/family) larger rooms on our top floor. Our rooms are en-suite and have views of the harbour and surrounding area. We want to make your stay with us as relaxed and enjoyable as possible. We provide comfortable, clean accommodation, a great breakfast (so our guests tell us!) with a good menu selection, and a warm friendly welcome. If you want help to get the most out of your stay on the island, we can offer suggestions about places of interest or tour guides/trips/walks so you enjoy what the area has to offer. Portree High School is a state co-educational comprehensive school in Portree, Skye in Scotland. The school currently enrols 640 pupils and employs 60 teachers. The school's catchment area draws from 15 primary schools across Skye and neighbouring Raasay.Until late 2008, the school consisted of three buildings - the main building, the Elgin Hostel and the Technical Block, along with about a dozen demountable classrooms. In 2008, this arrangement was replaced by a new building, constructed by Morrison Construction as part of a regional PPP scheme to build eleven schools in the Highlands. The demountable classrooms were then removed, and the main building and Technical Block demolished. The Elgin Hostel is a Category B listed building.The school's curriculum includes provision for Gaelic medium education. In 2006, an HMIE inspection resulted in a report that praised the "positive" relationship between pupils and staff, while criticising "limited" IT and "very poor" physical education provisions, and highlighting "significant risks to pupils' health and safety", thanks to poor traffic management outside the school, and a general lack of security. The building of the new school which opened in 2008 and the appointment of a new headteacher, Catherine MacDonald.
