Just a few minutes stroll from the centre of the ancient city of Ripon with its magnificent Cathedral, the elegant Best Western Ripon Spa Hotel stands in award winning landscape gardens.

The Marquis of Ripon agreed to lend some land at Studley Royal Park to an enthusiastic group of gentlemen from the Ripon area for the purposes of playing golf in 1891. In 1893, Harry Vardon was the club’s professional. Harry Vardon returned to play golf in 1913 by which time he had already won the Open Championship five times and was to win it for a sixth time in 1914. Studley Royal, including the ruins of Fountains Abbey, is now a designated World Heritage Site. Golf began on the current course in 1908 when Ripon City Golf Club was established. In 1993 a second nine was added and just before the arrival of the current century, the new clubhouse was completed. Course presentation continues to win accolades from members and visitors alike, with the greens in particular receiving special praise. There have been many recent improvements to the course and these are continuing under the guidance of world renowned course architect Howard Swan. Located just outside of the ancient City of Ripon, the golf course offers a great day out in peaceful, rural surroundings, commanding views over the famous Cathedral, the Hambleton Hills and the North Yorkshire Moors. It is a delight to play for golfers of all abilities.

This year we are turning up the gas on our photography competition giving away tickets to every meeting in our new rolling competition. For each meeting you attend you have the chance to win tickets to the next meeting! All you have to do is like the Ripon Photography Competition 2013 page on Facebook and click 'attend' on the meeting you are coming to. Then all you have to do is upload your photo from that meeting to win tickets to the next. We will also be receiving entries via Twitter, so Tweet us your photos at @RiponRaces. Winners will be informed via email or via Facebook/Twitter so make sure you supply us your details. T & C will be available on our website shortly, entries will close within 24 hours of the race meeting. At the end of the season we will pick the best photograph from all the meetings, with the winner receiving a 2014 Joint Annual Badge! We will class our double meetings as one meeting; however we will be giving away two pairs of tickets for these. Get snapping away and good luck!
