Saltburn history in our own voices Do you have stories to tell about life in Saltburn in times gone by? If so we would like to meet you . You could be recording your own, or your family's, place in our town's history. We are creating a “virtual museum” permanently available online to capture the gems of valuable knowledge that yesteryear were commonplace, but now are so rare many of us may not even be aware of them. The museum will hold a searchable feast of maps, pictures, information, stories, audio recordings and video, free for everyone to browse, but we can't build it without your input and support. This virtual museum will be for everyone, so don’t worry if you are not interested in computers, we will hold regular events giving everyone an opportunity to get involved, learn about our heritage and to enjoy the contributions of others. Saltburn is coming up to its 152nd birthday, which may sound like a very long time, but as local historian Tony Lynn points out when he first came to Saltburn, “the inception of the town was still within living memory”. You may have some fabulous knowledge that you don’t even realise others aren’t aware of. We will help you document and share this information. We are looking to share and conserve Saltburn history in its people's own voices, to show residents, visitors and future historians who we are and where we came from. We would love to sit down and have a chat. If you have any photographs, we will make a digital copy for the virtual museum, meaning you can still keep the original. We will then display the copy with your story. We are looking for photographs of not just buildings and scenery, but also family snaps which may contain faces from the past and show how we used to live. Tony and Cath Lynn have agreed to be our guides on how to conserve our history; to help us illuminate, entertain and grow interest in the history of our town. They have been conserving and sharing this area's history for more than half a century; with Tony as the orator and Cath as lead researcher. We are very honoured that they are supporting the project and we will work hard to maintain and grow this valuable resource to the standard they would expect. Once we start bringing together the small things we all know about our past, who knows what we will discover? You can email us info@saltburnbythesea.org or Come to our drop in events in the library on a Friday in July . Young or Vintage it would be great to see you . Whether you're reading this in your kitchen in Saltburn, or by the barbie in Oz, we want to hear from you.
