Sandhurst railway station
Sandhurst railway station is a railway station in the town of Sandhurst in Berkshire, England. The station is managed by First Great Western, who operate services on the North Downs Line from Reading to Guildford, Redhill and Gatwick Airport. The station is miles (19 km) south east of Reading.Sandhurst Station has two platforms: Platform 1 for services towards Gatwick Airport and Platform 2 for services towards Reading. The station is unstaffed and has an emergency telephone situated on Platform 2. There is a ticket machine shelter situated outside the station, however the actual machine has been removed due to constant vandalism. At one point the station did have functional information displays present on both platforms, however through faults and the discontinued use of CRT based screens these have now both been removed, the upgrades for the line should see this station eventually have LED-based rolling screens. The audio announcement system is still in place but this is not reliable.HistoryThe station opened as 'Sandhurst Halt' in 1909, but only in its official guise, as a temporary station had previously existed between 1852 and 1853. In around 1918, there were proposals to site a replacement station and goods yard a 1/4 of a mile northwards along the route, but seemingly, these never came to fruition.
