Welcome to Books for Free Southampton!
Have you ever wondered what happens to books when libraries, publishers, and even charity shops don't have space for them anymore? They get saved by us!
By visiting our shop and taking a book, you're reducing the amount of waste that goes to landfill each year and helping to recycle valuable resources. Most of the books we save are in excellent readable condition and deserve a better fate than landfill. Across the country so far, the Books for Free initiative has saved over 55 tons of books!
Books for Free is supported by the charity Healthy Planet, an organisation developed to “inspire, encourage and support individuals and businesses around the world to make a difference to themselves, their children and the planet.†For more information on the good work that they do, please see their website: www.healthyplanet.org

Our shop in Southampton is entirely staffed by volunteers, and as such we cannot promise to be open 9-5 every day. If we do miss you when you come by, please check back in a few hours or the next day! If you are interested in volunteering – BRILLIANT! Simply come into the store and have a chat with one of our volunteers who will tell you all about it!
You can find us at the 3rd Age Centre on Onslow Road inbetween The Dorchester Arms and The Rockstone pubs.
At Books for Free Southampton we not only offer rescued books to the public, but are keen to support other community projects with an interest in environmental and eco concerns. If you are interested in using our space, or simply wish to drop us a leaflet, come by the store and talk to one of our volunteers!
